About Cessna

Cessna is a neighborhood school which is an important part of a community that includes residential housing, restaurants, a library, various religious denominations and recreational and athletic facilities.

Some of the programs at Cessna include all-day kindergarten. Other programs include Reading First Grant focusing on the 5 Big Components of Reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency; Reading is Fundamental (RIF); Book It; Science Kits; Block Scheduling; Family Activity Nights with hands-on activities to take home; Music programs; and a PC computer in every classroom that is Internet accessible. 

We now have a Computer Lab which is equipped with twenty-nine desktop PC that is also internet accessible.   New to Cessna is our Mobile Lab equipped with twenty-four wireless internet laptops.  The Mobile Lab is great for the teachers, they can bring technology into their classroom for another way of learning for the students.  All classrooms have their own Smart Boards/Projector which is also a great source of technology and a learning tool for the students.  We invite all parents to come see how they work and learn some technolngy.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Cessna Elementary is to provide the highest quality research based education.  We engage our students through rigorous, standards based curriculum.  Student progress will be continuously monitored through multiple measures to ensure growth toward mastery of standards.  Based on this monitoring, instruction will be adjusted for individual student needs.

At Cessna, we will provide a cooperative learning environment that fosters positive relationships between our students, staff, parents, and community.  We will provide a rigorous and engaging curriculum that enhances our students' academia.  The staff at Cessna Elementary will teach all students through differentiated instruction to meet individual ability levels.

Target Goals from Campus Improvement Plan

1. All students will demonstrate effective communication skills across the curriculum. The students will analyze, summarize, and comprehend what is read in all subject areas.
2. All students will write and orally communicate for 1) clear communication, 2) analysis, 3) conceptualization, 4) synthesis, 5) summarization of information in all subject areas.
3. All students will use creative, imaginative, and divergent thinking to formulate and solve problems and communicate the results.
